DMC colour chart
This is the DMC colour chart PixVix stitches with: standard six-strand codes, the floss name, and a screen hex swatch. Search by number or name. The hex is a display approximation, not a spectrophotometer reading of the skein.
How to use the chart

Find the code
Search the number printed on your skein, or the name. Sorting by number follows the code. Sorting by colour groups similar hues.

Trust the number, not the glow of your screen
Monitors differ. The swatch is there so a legend is readable. The skein you buy is the one with that DMC code on the band.

Convert only when you are not stitching DMC
Anchor, Madeira, Cosmo, and the other solid brands have their own charts and a converter. Do not invent a substitute from two hex codes that look close.
What this list is
DMC stranded cotton is sold by a code: 310 is black, B5200 is a white, 3713 is a pink, and so on. A chart legend uses those codes. This page lists the standard six-strand colours in the PixVix palette, which is the set the pattern maker assigns and the set the shop palette can switch away from. The count at the top of the table is the number of codes actually loaded, so it stays honest if the palette changes.
The core codes are the ones existing PixVix charts were made with. Further standard colours come from the convertfloss reference list, which is published under the MIT licence. Blended colours are not in this table. Metallics are not in this table. If a chart uses a blend, the legend of that chart is the authority, not this page.

Hex values are for the screen
Every row shows a hex colour so the table is not a wall of bare numbers. Those hex values are approximations used to draw the chart on a display. They are not DMC’s measured dye data, and two monitors will not show 321 the same way. When you shop, match the code. When you design, use the code the maker wrote into the legend. If a swatch looks wrong next to the skein in your hand, the skein wins.
Nearest-colour matching in the pattern maker uses these display colours as its map. That is why a photo can land on a code you would not have picked, and why editing a few codes is a normal part of making a pattern. The colour-to-floss tool does the same kind of lookup if you have a hex from somewhere else and want the nearest DMC.
Strands, skeins, and substitutes
A DMC skein is six strands. Most cross stitch on Aida uses two strands for the crosses and one for backstitch. The code does not change when you change the strand count. The coverage does. The floss calculator estimates skeins from stitch counts. It does not tell you how many strands to use. That is a fabric and coverage choice.
If your shop is out of a DMC code, the thread converter suggests the nearest solid colour in another brand. “Nearest” is a colour distance, not a promise that the dye lots will sit together in a large sky. For a background, buy the chart’s brand if you can. For a small accent, a close substitute is usually invisible.

- Is this the official DMC chart?
- It is PixVix’s working list of standard DMC six-strand codes, with names and screen hex values. It is not a scan of a DMC printed card, and the hex values are not official dye measurements. Stitch and shop by the code.
- Why is a colour missing?
- Blends and metallics are not in this table. A code that is not a standard six-strand colour in the PixVix palette will not appear. The chart you are stitching is the authority for that design.
- Can I convert these codes to Anchor?
- Yes, in the thread converter and on the Anchor colour chart. The match is the nearest solid colour, not a factory equivalent.
- Does the pattern maker only use this list?
- The photo-to-pattern maker assigns colours from this DMC palette. You can change codes in the editor, and the shop can show the same chart in other thread brands.
- What does the hex column mean?
- It is the colour used to draw that code on screen. Buy the skein by the DMC number. Do not colour-match a photo to the hex by eye and expect the skein to be identical.
