How to stitch a free pattern
- 1
Print at 100%
Open the PDF and print at actual size. If the squares are too small to read, print the chart page at 150% as well; only the chart grows, not your stitching.
- 2
Cut your fabric
Take the finished size from the card and add at least 5 cm (2 in) on every side for the hoop and for framing. 14-count Aida is the easiest start.
- 3
Buy the threads
Every colour is a standard DMC number. One skein per colour covers most of these charts; the PDF lists the exact stitches and skeins for each colour.
- 4
Find the centre
Fold the fabric in half both ways and mark the middle. The teal arrows on the chart show the matching centre row and column.
- 5
Stitch colour by colour
Use two strands on 14-count. Work all the stitches of one symbol in an area, keep every top leg in the same direction, and tick off rows on the printout as you go.
What is inside each PDF
- A full-colour chart with a symbol in every square, so it still reads when printed in black and white.
- Bold grid lines every 10 stitches with numbers, and arrows marking the centre.
- The size in stitches and the finished size on 14 and 18-count fabric.
- A thread list with symbol, DMC number, colour name, stitch count and skeins.
- One or two US Letter pages that also print fine on A4.
Free for personal use
Stitch these patterns as often as you like and give the finished pieces as gifts. Please do not resell, re-upload or share the PDF files themselves; link to this page instead so others can download them.

Questions
- Are these cross stitch patterns really free?
- Yes. Click Free PDF to open the chart in your browser and print or save it. There is no account, email address or payment involved.
- Are they good for beginners?
- Yes. They use whole cross stitches only, with no backstitch or fractional stitches, and most need fewer than ten colours. The hearts, lavender and snowflake are the gentlest start.
- Which threads and fabric do I need?
- DMC stranded cotton in the colours listed on the PDF, and 14-count Aida in white or cream. Use two strands of floss and a size 24 tapestry needle.
- Can I use another thread brand?
- Yes. Look up each DMC number in a conversion chart for Anchor or another brand. Colours are close but not identical, so compare skeins side by side.
- Can I change the colours or the size?
- The PDFs are fixed, but you can make your own version in the PIXVIX editor: draw or upload a design, choose your colours and the size, and export a chart.
- Why is the PDF in English?
- The chart itself is universal: symbols, squares and DMC numbers are the same in every language. Only the short labels on the PDF are in English.
