Glossary
These are product terms, not a dictionary of every needlework word. If a term is not here, it is probably not something the studio stores.
Aida
Even-weave cotton with a visible square grid. Count is stitches per inch.
Pixvix assumes an over-one grid: one chart stitch occupies one Aida square. Fabric count (14, 16, 18, …) is stitches per inch, which is why finished size is stitches divided by count. The editor lets you set cloth colour for the on-screen grid; that is preview, not a dye lot.
DMC
The stranded cotton range Pixvix maps colours to.
Photo conversion snaps clusters to DMC codes. Each palette row in the editor is one DMC thread. Painting with a new swatch adds it. “Add color” searches the library; nearest-DMC from a hex is the same mapping the converter uses. We do not sell floss.
Fabric count
How many stitches fit in one inch of cloth.
Stored on the chart as fabricCount (default 14). Higher count → smaller finished piece for the same stitch grid. The size calculator and the Info panel share this number. It is not DPI of your photo.
Stitch count
Width × height of the chart in stitches.
This is the canvas size you confirm after a photo conversion or when you open a blank grid. Free accounts are limited on originals; the sample chart is a full Workspace regardless of plan. Stitch count times fabric count is not a floss estimate.
Floss
Stranded cotton. In Pixvix, one palette row is one DMC code.
Workspace can isolate a colour so you stitch one dye lot at a time. Parking and Journey are for the same chart, not a second palette. We do not calculate skein counts; brands publish those tables with their own assumptions.
Pattern chart
The counted grid: colours, symbols, and stitch types.
View modes (Symbols, Crosses, Blocks, Black & White) only change how the chart is drawn. They do not change the pattern. PDF export is a printable pack of that same grid. Workspace marks progress on it; it is not a different file.
